The meeting commenced with an introduction to the U.S. State Department’s Regional Office in New York. The Regional Director described the office as one of six in the United States for which the New York branch is the largest and is responsible for the nation’s most extensive diplomatic community in the City of New York. Its jurisdiction spans from Maine to Pennsylvania, and its office is comprised of six staff members, though currently operating with five, and is primarily staffed with permanent civil service employees, with Hon. Eagen being the sole Diplomat.
Prof. Kaydor thanked the Regional Director and the 2 other Officials for taking their busy time to meet with the Liberian Consulate General near the City of New York. He then discussed with OFM several diplomatic and administrative issues affecting diplomatic officials in New York. Both parties agreed to work together and seek resolution for a range of administrative, logistical, and policy-related challenges related to the efficacious functioning of the diplomatic community in New York. The OFM provided relevant information on several U.S. diplomatic policies, procedures, and offered guidance on issues including visa reciprocity, parking violations, duty-free imports, real estate obligations, and personnel matters. Professor Kaydor thanked the OFM for the meeting and expressed Liberia’s continued support, collaboration with and cordial relationship with the Host Country.
